  • The American Education Research Association honored him with their Paulo Freire International Recognition Award for his contribution in the areas of educational equity, anti-racism, social justice, and social transformation.
  • The National Association for Multicultural Education (the leading transformative education organization in the USA) honored Dr. Romero with their Founders Award for his national impact on creating equitable, inclusive, and transformational education models, curricula, and environments.
  • The College Board presented Dr. Romero with their Advanced Placement Honor Roll Award for his work in equity and excellence in education.
  • Arizona Hispanic School Administrators Association, Outstanding Achievement and Contributions Award. Recognizing him for leading the struggle for educational justice.        
  • Amistades Project, conferred the Hank Oyama Segundo de Febrero Award - Community Leadership Award upon Dr. Romero for leading the struggle against racism and injustice.
